Majors with Important Modifications to General Education Requirements

Following is a list of majors in which GE requirements have been modified. These modifications include special approval for various required non-GE courses to count in the GE categories indicated.

Agriculture

  • ANSC 101 is an approved major course substitution for Life Sciences (B2).
  • AGRI 482 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Social Sciences.
  • JOUR 260 and JOUR 341 are approved GE Writing Intensive substitutions.
  • AGRI 482 is also an approved GE Capstone substitution.

Biochemistry

  • BIOL 151 is an approved advanced course substitution for Life Sciences (B2).
  • CHEM 381 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.
  • CHEM 381 is also an approved GE Writing Intensive substitution.

Chemistry

  • CHEM 381 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.
  • CHEM 381 is also an approved GE Writing Intensive substitution.

Computer Information Systems

  • CSCI 217 is an approved major course substitution for Critical Thinking (A3).
  • MATH 109 is an approved advanced course substitution for Quantitative Reasoning (A4).
  • CSCI 301 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Social Science.
  • CSCI 301 is also an approved GE Capstone substitution.

Computer Science

  • CSCI 217 is an approved major course substitution for Critical Thinking (A3).

  • Take only one course in either Arts (C1) or Humanities (C2).
  • CMGT 330 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.

Liberal Studies

  • Completion of major satisfies all GE Pathway requirements. SOSC 302 and ASST 200 or SOSC 303 satisfy Diversity. Completion of MATH 110 and 111 meets Quantitative Reasoning (A4) requirement.

Mathematics

  • MATH 420 is an approved GE Writing Intensive substitution.

  • HCSV 451 fulfills Learning for Life (E).
  • EDTE 302, ENGL 471, and MATH 333 fulfill the Upper-Division Pathway requirement.

  • CHEM 107, CHEM 108, & CHEM 111 are approved advanced course substitutions for Physical Sciences (B1).
  • PSYC 101 is an approved major course substitution for Societal Institutions (D2).
  • NURS 303 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.
  • For online RN-BSN program only: NURS 495W is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.
  • NURS 422 or NURS 422W are approved GE Capstone substitutions.

Philosophy

  • PHIL 108 and PHIL 201 are approved major course substitutions for Humanities (C2).
  • PHIL 108, PHIL 420, and PHIL 421 are approved GE Writing Intensive substitutions.

Sustainable Manufacturing

  • MATH 119 is an approved advanced course substitution for Quantitative Reasoning (A4).
  • CHEM 107 & PHYS 202A are approved advanced course substitutions for Physical Sciences (B1).
