The Minor in Theatre Arts

Course Requirements for the Minor: 21 units

The following courses, or their approved transfer equivalents, are required of all candidates for this minor.

A survey of all aspects of theatre arts, including history, production styles and techniques, acting, directing, and stagecraft. Supplemental reading and examination of theatre literature. 3 hours lecture. This is an approved General Education course. (009211)
An introduction to the aesthetic principles and practical methods actors use to bring life to characters in plays. Special attention is given to themes of healthy vs. unhealthy personal, family, and social relationships and their critical examination through the active inquiry of rehearsal. 3 hours lecture. Prerequisites: For Theatre and Musical Theatre majors: THEA 150; for Theatre minors and all others: THEA 110.
A course in the principles and methods employed by directors, designers, and actors to comprehend dramatic literature as scripts for theatrical performance. 3 hours lecture. (009513)

Any Theatre (THEA) courses, with a minimum of 6 upper-division units.

Note: THEA 201, THEA 202, THEA 203, THEA 204, THEA 205, THEA 206, THEA 301, and THEA 302 may be repeated for credit, but only a maximum of 3 units in these courses may be counted toward the minor.
