Catalog Vision and Mission
University Catalog Vision
The University Catalog is a gateway—an interactive tool—through which potential students and families (as well as members of both the local and world communities) gain an initial exposure to California State University, Chico. Now, strictly online, the University Catalog serves as a recruiting tool where academic departments can provide empowering examples of:
- successes by both current undergraduate and
graduate level students as well as program alumni; - influential, student-run academic programming
and events; as well as - advantageous partnerships with the local, community organizations.
Alongside degree requirement information and explanations of facilities—the catalog also displays all of the courses offered by a particular department; department location and contact information; and lists of faculty members.
University Catalog Mission
The University Catalog provides authoritative information directly from the CSU Chancellor's Office (as well as other state or federal regulating institutions) on degree requirements; policies; rules and regulations; and expected conduct. The University Catalog also provides users a more complete picture of Chico State through campus publication snippets highlighting various happenings— as well as the resources for success that this beautiful campus offers. The University Catalog plans to accomplish several smaller goals to achieve the greater goal of a product that functions to meet the ideas and ideals set forth by the vision.
Currently, Catalog staff is partnering with other department representatives to create a publication that will continue to:
- work with Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) and Office of Accessible Technology and Services (OATS) to maintain compliance with Section 508 of the American Disabilities Act;
- work with Creative Media and Technology (CMT) to create, manage, and maintain a catalog that adheres to web standards and best practices;
- annually, enter mandatory copy from the CSU Chancellor’s Office regarding changes to previous cost estimates, policies, and governing regulations;
- use content from University Communications (UCOMM) publications to create dynamic content for the Catalog homepage.
In the future, the University Catalog intends to:
- add content (articles, stories, updates) to academic department homepage information in the catalog (supplied by the college development officers);
- work with Applications and Data Services (ADS) to create links on academic faculty pages to the Faculty Expert Database Search.
The University Catalog is produced by Academic Publications & Scheduling Services. For more information about APSS, visit its website, or send an email to apss@csuchico.edu. Questions regarding catalog content or the production cycle may be sent to catalog@csuchico.edu.
