College of Communication & Education

The college includes the Department of Kinesiology, the Department of Recreation and Parks Management, the School of Communication, the School of Education, and Liberal Studies.

Our Mission

The College of Communication and Education is a student-centered learning community focused on the development of human potential through disciplinary knowledge and professional practice that meet the needs of diverse clients. We invest in our collective future through leadership in effective communication, collaborative field experiences, reflective professional practice, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Programs

The School of Communication offers undergraduate programs in public relations and news-editorial in the Department of Journalism. The Department of Communi­cation Design has undergraduate programs in graphic design, mass communication design, and media arts. The Department of Communica­tion Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate programs in organizational communica­tion, communication and public affairs, and communication sciences and disor­ders. Graduate programs are available in communication sciences and disorders, and communication studies.

The School of Education departments offer professional education programs leading to basic and specialist credentials as well as master’s degrees. Programs include multiple and single subject, special educa­tion, educational leadership and administration, and bilingual/cross-cul­tural language and academic development.

The Department of Kinesiology offers undergraduate and graduate degrees leading to careers in teaching, sports medicine, fitness, coaching, and outdoor education.

Liberal Studies provides an interdisciplinary, high-quality degree that is the primary pathway for well-educated professionals preparing for elementary school teaching.

The Department of Recreation and Parks Management offers graduate and undergraduate degrees that prepare students for management careers in community/commercial recreation, parks and natural resources, resort and lodging management, therapeutic recreation, and special events and tourism.
