College of Communication & Education

The college includes the School of Education, the Kinesiology Department, the Department of Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management, the Department of Journalism and Public Relations, the Department of Communication Studies, the Department of Communication Design, and the Liberal Studies Program.

Our Mission

The College of Communication and Education is a student-centered learning environment. We focus on the innovative pairing of disciplinary knowledge and applied, professional practice to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders. We foster leadership and life-long learning through effective communication, civic engagement, community building, and the holistic development of human potential.

Programs

The School of Education offers professional education programs leading to initial advanced credentials, authorizations, and master’s degrees.

The Department of Kinesiology offers undergraduate and graduate degrees leading to careers in teaching, sports medicine, fitness, and coaching.

The Department of Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management offers graduate and undergraduate degrees that prepare students for management careers in community/commercial recreation, tourism, parks and natural resources, resort and lodging management, therapeutic recreation, and event management.

The College offers undergraduate programs in public relations and news-editorial in the Department of Journalism and Public Relations. The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate programs in organizational communication, communication and public affairs, and communication sciences and disorders. Graduate programs are available in communication sciences and disorders and communication studies. The Department of Communication Design has undergraduate programs in graphic design, mass communication design, and media arts. And, the Liberal Studies program provides an interdisciplinary, high-quality degree that is the primary pathway for well-educated professionals preparing for elementary school teaching.
