Basic Teaching Credentials

The Multiple Subject Credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in public schools organized in self-contained classrooms, typically kindergarten through sixth grade.

The Single Subject Credential authorizes the holder to teach the specific subject designated on the credential (e.g., English, math) in schools organized by subject departments, typically grades 7 through 12. Multiple and Single Subject Credentials authorize the holder to teach all students in the regular classroom, including English learners.

The Bilingual Authorization in the Multiple or Single Subject Credential program, authorizes the holder to provide English Language Development (ELD) and specially designed academic instruction in English (SDAIE) to English learners as well as content instruction delivered to teach learners in the primary language. Program participants may complete 15 units of the Master of Arts in Education coursework at the same time they earn a Multiple or Single Subject Credential with the Bilingual emphasis.

The Multiple and Single Subject Internship Programs are alternative pathways to a credential designed to meet the credentialing needs of candidates who become employed as teachers.

The Education Specialist Credential: Mild to Moderate authorizes the holder to conduct Educational Assessments related to students’ access to the academic curriculum and progress towards meeting instructional goals, provide instruction, and Special Education Support to students with mild to moderate related to one or more of the following disabilities: autism, emotional disturbance, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, and traumatic brain injury; in kindergarten, grades 1-12 through age 22, and classes organized primarily for adults in services across the continuum of program options available.

The Education Specialist Credential: Moderate to Severe authorizes the holder to conduct Educational Assessments related to students’ access to the academic curriculum and progress towards meeting instructional goals, provide instruction, and Special Education Support to students with moderate to severe related to one or more of the following disabilities: autism, deafblind, emotional disturbance, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, and traumatic brain injury; in kindergarten, grades 1-12 through age 22, and classes organized primarily for adults in services across the continuum of program options available.

The Education Specialist Internship Program is an alternative pathway to a credential designed to meet the credentialing needs of candidates who become employed as teachers.

Adapted Physical Education is an authorization offered through the Department of Kinesiology. This credential allows future physical education teachers to instruct individuals with disabilities in the public schools.

Agriculture Specialist is offered through the College of Agriculture. Candidates who fulfill the requirements for this credential are prepared to teach in out-of-classroom settings such as serving as a FFA advisor and Supervised Agricultural Experience Program supervisor.
