The Certificate in Advanced Study in History

The Department of History offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in Advanced Study in History.

Admission:

There are no course prerequisites for admission to this certificate program and the GRE is not required. Applicants for admission must, however, meet all relevant University and departmental standards, policies, and procedures, including:

1. A bachelor's degree in History from an accredited institution or an acceptable bachelor's degree in another discipline with advance approval of the History Department's Graduate Coordinator.

2. An acceptable undergraduate grade point average, as specified in Graduate and Postbaccalaureate Admission Requirements in the University Catalog.

3. An application on file with Graduate Studies.

4. Approval by the History Department Graduate Committee.

Course Requirements for the Certificate: 12 units

The certificate requires 12 units of 400/500/600-level course work in the discipline of history as follows:

1. A minimum of 9 units of 600-level courses selected from:

2. No more than 3 units of 400 or 500-level courses; these units must include additional student work, as determined by the course instructor, to qualify as graduate-level work.

3. No more than 3 semester units of transfer and/or extension credit.

4. A grade-point average of 3.0 is required for the entire program, with at least a B- earned in each course.

5. Up to 12 units earned as part of the Certificate may be transferred into the History Department's Master Degree program
