Majors with Important Modifications to General Education Requirements

Following is a list of majors in which GE requirements have been modified. These modifications include special approval for various required non-GE courses to count in the GE categories indicated.

Agriculture

  • ANSC 101 is an approved major course substitution for Life Sciences (B2).
  • AGRI 482 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Social Sciences.

Agriculture Business

Animal Science

Biological Sciences - BA

  • Take only one course in either Arts (C1) or Humanities (C2). The other is waived.
  • CMGT 330 fulfills Upper-Division Natural Sciences.

Environmental Science

Geology

  • GEOS 580 is an approved major course substitution for Upper Division Natural Sciences.

Geosciences

Liberal Studies

  • Completion of major satisfies all GE Pathway requirements.

Mathematics

  • MATH 217 is an approved major course substitution for Critical Thinking (A3).
  • MATH 330 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.

  • EDTE 451 fulfills Learning for Life (E).
  • EDTE 302, ENGL 471, and MATH 333 fulfill the Upper-Division Pathway requirement.

Sustainable Manufacturing

  • Take one course in either Arts (C1) or Humanities (C2).  The other is waived.
  • SMFG 360 fulfills Upper-Division Natural Sciences.

Engineering Majors

Civil Engineering

  • Take CMST 131 for Oral Communication (A1)
  • Critical Thinking (A3) is waived.
  • Take only one course in either Arts (C1) or Humanities (C2). The other is waived.
  • CIVL 302 fulfills either Society (D1) or Societal Institutions (D2). You must complete one additional D1 or D2 course.
  • CIVL 495 is an approved major course substitution for Learning for Life (E).
  • CIVL 461 is an approved major course substitution for Upper-Division Natural Sciences.

Computer Engineering

  • Critical Thinking (A3) is waived.
  • PHYS 204B fulfills Life Sciences (B2).
  • Take only one course in either Arts (C1) or Humanities (C2). The other is waived.  Selecting a Writing Intensive (WI) course is strongly encouraged.
  • EECE 490B is an approved major course substitution for either Individual and Society (D1) or Societal Institutions (D2). You must complete one additional D1 or D2 course.
  • EECE 490A is an approved major course substitution for Learning for Life (E).
  • EECE 311 fulfills Upper-Division Natural Sciences.

Electrical/Electronic Engineering

  • Critical Thinking (A3) is waived.
